As the school year kicks off, I wanted to share an exciting tradition we have here at Jewish Culture High School called "Culture Days." This tradition takes place during the first week of school. Instead of diving straight into academics, we engage in a series of fun and meaningful activities that bring students together and set a positive tone for the year ahead. Culture Days are all about building relationships and creating a strong sense of community for the betterment of the school.
Throughout the various activities, such as teaming up for a scavenger hunt at the mall, kayaking at Oleta Park, and going to SkyZone, we bond with one another in a way that goes beyond the classroom and standard icebreakers. Although Culture Days can seem intimidating to new students, it is a process you need to trust, as it is an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone. My first experience with Culture Days did frighten me, but as each day went on, I slowly warmed up to the teachers, students, and the unique concept of JCHS itself. These days also provide an opportunity for returning students to step into leadership roles and guide the new students through this unusual experience. I hope other schools can take inspiration from this idea and find creative ways to welcome students back to school with a sense of joy and connection.
